Bay Area Bountiful: The Fox Guy
For more than 10 years Bill Leikam has been keeping track of the small and elusive gray foxes at the Palo Alto Baylands. The goal of his nonprofit Urban Wildlife Research Project is to identify and restore healthy habitats and develop wildlife corridors necessary for animal survival. Bill has gotten to know his fox neighbors intimately, and has even designated each one a name based on their observed behavior and personality. He is fully committed to his role as ethologist—someone who studies animal behavior through direct observation.
