Coronavirus: What You Need to Know - May 5, 2020
On the May 5 edition of Coronavirus Virtual Town Hall, What You Need to Know, Sonoma County Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase broke the news that the county will be expanding its coronavirus testing priority to symptomatic individuals over 65 or with underlying health conditions. And with the state’s help, anyone in the county, symptomatic or not, can schedule a test. Susan Gorin, chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors also talked about testing, and how it was key to moving the county forward.
Last week, Sonoma County began reopening regional parks. We spoke with Regional Parks Director, Bert Whitaker, about how residents took advantage of the new rules over the weekend and answered many of our viewer questions.
More than 30 million Americans filed for unemployment and many in our community are struggling to pay the rent. Ronit Rubinoff, Executive Director of Legal Aid of Sonoma County, talked about tenants' rights during the pandemic and resources available for those that may need legal help. Supervisors Lynda Hopkins and David Rabbitt spoke about the county’s plans to gradually reopen some businesses.
State Senators Bill Dodd and Mike McGuire spoke about how legislators have been working with the Governor in Sacramento. And our South Bay correspondent Pamela Lorence spoke with essential workers who fear for their lives on working on the front lines without increased pay.
