It may be April Fool’s Day today, but the full celebration of the occasion happens on Saturday, when Occidental holds its 10th annual Fool’s Parade. A pair of rescued beavers at a local wildlife shelter will be returned to the wild, just as soon as they can demonstrate the ability to survive there.
Because the two young beavers have bonded to each other, their chances of a successful release are enhanced, says Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue director Doris Duncan, and their time at the shelter can be shorter and more productive.

Two years ago, a ballot measure that would have required labeling of foods with genetically modified ingredients was narrowly defeated by California voters. Now that same issue is being debated by the state legislature, in the form of a bill authored by a local legislator.
Sen. Evans has prepared a fact sheet on her bill that outline its provisions, and differences from Proposition 37 on the November 2012 ballot. She also discusses her SB 1381 in this video. (begins at 7:20)
